HNEE bids farewell to Prof Dr Klaus Dreiner on his retirement
After more than 25 years of dedicated teaching and research, Prof Dr Klaus Dreiner is retiring at the end of the 2024/25 winter semester. As Professor of Woodworking and Wood Processing, he played a key role in shaping the Faculty of Wood Engineering at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE).

Since taking office in 1998, Prof Dr Dreiner has been a central figure in the Faculty of Wood Engineering. He was not only instrumental in establishing the faculty, but also led its further development as Dean from 2006 to 2012. During this time, he drove forward the expansion of the study programmes and the international networking of the university in the DACH region. With his expertise in automation technology, production planning, factory planning and CNC technology, he prepared generations of students for the challenges of modern wood processing.
Practical research was particularly important to him. As head of the "Wood Innovation Workshop" at the university's forest campus, he was responsible for the operation of the technical centre and developed it into a modern research and teaching laboratory. His work on the integration of robotics in wood processing, including in cooperation with the Berlin joinery Artis, set new standards. He was also involved in international projects, including an EU-funded research alliance with Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, the University of Szczecin and the Uckermark Entrepreneurs' Association, with which he strengthened cross-border cooperation in the wood industry.
"In Professor Dreiner, we are losing a highly esteemed colleague whose passion for Wood Science and Technology, research and teaching had a decisive influence on our field. His tireless commitment to the faculty, his innovative strength and his dedication to the students will leave a big gap," emphasises Dean of the Faculty of Wood Engineering Prof. Dr Silke Lautner.
HNEE would like to thank Prof Dr Klaus Dreiner for his decades of service and wishes him all the best for the next stage of his life.
