Scholarships
HNEE German Scholarship
Since the winter semester 2011/12, the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development has been supporting particularly committed and high-achieving students with the HNEE German Scholarship.
The aim is to give students the opportunity to realise their full potential and concentrate on their studies without hindrance - regardless of their income or BAföG funding.
HNEE students can receive 300 euros per month for at least two semesters and up to the end of the standard period of study. The grant is made up in equal parts of funds from the Federal Ministry of Education & Research (BMBF) and funds from private sponsors.
For more information, please visit the website of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on the Deutschlandstipendium.
Information for students and prospective students
Scholarships are awarded once a year to students of all degree programs at HNE Eberswalde. The call for applications and the selection process take place in the winter semester, the scholarships are awarded in the summer semester.
Applications are currently not possible. The call for applications for funding from the summer semester 2026 will be published at the beginning of November 2025. We will inform all students about the specific application period in good time on our website and by e-mail.
Students of all study programmes at HNE Eberswalde who are or will be enrolled as main students during the funding period are eligible to apply. This also includes students in dual and further education programmes, as well as bachelor's students who have already completed a first university degree.
Yes, if you are enrolled at HNE Eberswalde as a full-time student during the funding period. Students who are studying at HNE Eberswalde as part of an exchange semester (e.g. Erasmus) are not eligible for the Deutschlandstipendium.
Up to two thirds of the scholarships awarded can be subject-specific. The exact number of subject-specific scholarships can be found in the call for applications for the respective funding period. In principle, however, at least one third of the scholarships are open to students from all disciplines.
The Germany Scholarships for students of all degree programmes are awarded once a year. The call for applications and the selection process take place in the winter semester and the scholarships are awarded in the summer semester, usually for a funding period of two semesters. Scholarships are awarded subject to the availability of funds. The exact application deadlines can be found on this website from October.
The scholarship is primarily a merit scholarship, for which you should generally have at least 20 ECTS points per semester with an average grade of 2.4 or better. However, social or (university) political commitment, voluntary work in associations, professional experience, the special situation of single parents, caring for relatives or similar are also taken into account.
If you do not have the specified grade limits and minimum number of ECTS points, but fulfil other criteria according to § 5 paragraph 5 of the "Statutes for the awarding of scholarships within the framework of the Deutschlandstipendium to students at HNEE", you may be considered by the selection committee in particularly justified exceptional cases.
Scholarships are generally granted for two semesters, unless the end of the standard period of study is reached earlier. The maximum funding period is limited to the standard period of study for the degree programme in question.
In the case of studies under challenging conditions, an extension of the maximum funding period is possible in accordance with § 7 para. 1 StipG. Applicants to whom this applies should use the application form provided on the website and upload it together with all required documents to the online application portal by the application deadline.
I will finish my studies before the funding period of 2 semesters. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can apply. In this case, funding would only be provided for one semester, up to a maximum of the standard period of study.
Applications can only be submitted via the Mobility Online application portal. There you will be asked to enter information about your studies, previous school, academic and professional career as well as other criteria that are decisive for the awarding of the scholarship. A curriculum vitae in tabular form, a certificate of enrolment and, if applicable, other certificates and supporting documents must also be uploaded to the application form.
During the application process, you will be asked about your academic and school achievements.
For students who are in the first semester at the time of application, the Abitur grade (for applications from Bachelor's students) or the grade of the first undergraduate degree (for applications from Master's students) is decisive.
For students who are at least in their 2nd semester at the time of application, the academic achievements including the previous summer semester are decisive. The certificate of performance will be automatically retrieved by the Scholarship Coordination Office on a specific deadline with the applicant's consent.
As a rule, special qualifications, voluntary work, language skills or internal university involvement, for example, can only be taken into account if they have been documented with appropriate evidence (certificates, attestations, etc.). Students with committee activities should use the form "Proof of committee activities at HNEE".
If no evidence can be provided, special personal circumstances with regard to the degree programme should be sufficiently explained.
Letters of recommendation from HNEE lecturers and foreign language certificates that were a prerequisite for admission to the degree programme as well as further education certificates that are part of the training or degree programme will not be recognised.
No, no further evidence can be submitted after the application deadline.
As only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered, it is essential that you comply with the requirements set out in the call for applications. A simple copy of the supporting documents is sufficient for your application. For application documents that are not in German or English, a simple copy of the officially certified translation in German must also be enclosed.
As soon as you have confirmed that all documents have been uploaded in full and the application can be sent, you will receive a message informing you that your application has been received.
The selection procedure takes place in January. All applicants are usually informed of the selection committee's decision by email by mid-February at the latest.
Yes. To receive further funding, you must reapply during the next application round. The maximum funding period is based on the standard period of study for the respective course of study.
An exception is made in the case of an extension for good cause (e.g. a disability, pregnancy, the care and upbringing of a child or a subject-related stay abroad). In these cases, the maximum funding period can be extended.
For students who have already completed at least one full semester or are in their second semester at HNE Eberswalde and change university, the scholarship will continue to be paid for one semester (see § 8 StipG). Otherwise, the scholarship ends with the month of de-registration, discontinuation of studies or change of subject. It is possible to apply for the scholarship at the new university (see § 8 StipG).
The HNEE German Scholarships are awarded by a selection committee consisting of the President, a representative from each department, the Equal Opportunities Officer and two student representatives. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of anonymised ranking lists.
70% of the scholarships awarded by HNEE are awarded according to a weighting of the criteria ‘school or academic performance’ and ‘other performance criteria’ (e.g. Voluntary committment, employment, vocational training, voluntary services).
30% of the scholarships awarded by HNEE are awarded according to a weighting of the criteria ‘school or academic performance’ and ‘special personal or family circumstances’ (e.g. diseases, carework, migration background, non-academic familiy background).
After receipt of the application documents, the committee inspects the documents and assesses them on the basis of set selection criteria. As a next step, the selection committee decides who will receive a scholarship on the basis of anonymised proposal lists. Notifications of acceptance or rejection are sent out promptly.
The Deutschlandstipendium does not count towards BAföG. For other scholarship programmes, the type and amount of the scholarship is decisive. Students who already receive a talent- and performance-based scholarship that amounts to an average of 30 euros or more per month will not receive a Deutschlandstipendium. You can find out which scholarship programmes are compatible with the Deutschlandstipendium on the BMBF's Deutschlandstipendium website.
No. The Deutschlandstipendium is generally not offset against other social benefits, such as unemployment benefit II. An exception is the receipt of housing benefit. Please note that, like other scholarships, half of the Deutschlandstipendium is taken into account when calculating your annual income. If you have any further questions about scholarships and housing benefit, please contact your local housing benefit office.
Yes, the Deutschlandstipendium is also awarded during a study-integrating practical semester.
Yes, for reasons such as maternity leave, parental leave or a DAAD-funded study abroad programme. If you continue your studies, the authorisation period will be extended by the duration of the leave of absence (see § 7 StipG).
The BMBF has published further information and FAQs about the Deutschlandstipendium on its website.
Information for sponsors
What I can do as a sponsor...
For each scholarship, you support a high-achieving and committed student at HNE Eberswalde with 150 euros (or more) per month. You decide how long and how many scholarships you want to fund. The student receives a further 150 euros from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The funds go directly to the scholarship holders, who you are welcome to meet at various networking meetings.
What advantages do I have as a sponsor?
- You support future specialists during their studies and thus help to counteract the shortage of skilled labour.
- You strengthen the university and thus the city of Eberswalde and its region.
- You are investing in education and thus shaping the future of our country.
- You get to know the sponsored students personally and help them to devote themselves fully to their studies.
- The public learns about your commitment. And, of course, you will also receive a donation receipt.
How do I become a sponsor?
With the fully completed and hand-signed → declaration of sponsorship, you provide binding assurance of your sponsorship within the framework of the HNEE German Scholarship. Here you can also indicate whether your funding contribution should be tied to students from all faculties or specifically to one faculty or degree programme.
