Agroforestry systems are a form of land use in which agricultural production is combined with the cultivation of trees or shrubs on the same area. In 2017, HNEE set up a real-world laboratory in cooperation with a farm in Löwenberger Land.
Designed as a long-term study, the adaptation to climate change and the increase in biodiversity on agricultural land play just as much a role here as the practicability and economic viability of this new form of land use. In combination with this, the agroforestry systems module in the real-world laboratory, which is supported by student tutors, pursues an interdisciplinary, practical approach. Work assignments and data collection and analyses on the experimental area, excursions to exciting farms and specialist lectures bring students closer to agroforestry.
