Discover, explore, marvel: the HNEE Children's University invites you.

From 10 to 14 March 2025, the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) will be opening its doors to young explorers: The Children's University enters its 18th round! For one week, curious pupils in the fifth and sixth grades will have the opportunity to get to the bottom of exciting questions about nature, science and the environment - together with experts from HNEE and external specialists.

Whether wild raccoons in our cities, mysterious dream worlds or the future on Mars - the children's university offers fascinating insights. Dr Berit Michler takes the young participants into the world of clever raccoons, while Dr Christian Kaufmann explains why we dream. Prof Dr Hubertus Adam will talk about feelings and the question of what "crazy" actually means.

In addition to exciting lectures, the focus will also be on future topics. Various ideas show what the life of tomorrow could look like. Sign language offers fascinating insights into non-verbal communication. Prof Dr Ralf Bloch, HNEE Professor of Agroecology and Sustainable Cultivation Systems, will explain how a robot removes weeds from organic sugar beet.

On Friday, the focus will be on colours and light: are cucumber atoms really green? The secrets that trees hide in their growth rings will also be explored.

The children's university offers schoolchildren a unique opportunity to experience science up close. Participation is free of charge. There are still a few remaining places available for small groups. Those interested can register at offen(at)hnee.de.

About the Children's University
Since 2008, the HNEE Children's University has been organised in cooperation with the Barnim Uckermark Civic Foundation, which teaches pupils about current and sustainable topics in a fun and child-friendly way, regardless of their school type. Lecturers from HNEE and other universities take the children on an exciting four-day journey through the world of science.
