The authentic university - a lecture by Prof Dr Frank Ziegele

Last Friday, Prof Dr Frank Ziegele from the non-profit Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) gave a very exciting lecture entitled "The authentic university" as part of our "Nachhall" series of events.

He showed how previous certainties in the university landscape are dissolving. At the same time, expectations of universities have grown: in addition to training specialised academic staff, they are expected to conduct outstanding research, develop the region and answer social questions.
Universities must therefore embark on a process of change. Prof Dr Ziegele presented several possible profiles in the form of a quartet card game. He described the profile of the "Challenge University" (interdisciplinary handling of major social challenges) as particularly applicable to HNEE. In his view, HNEE is on the right track with the change process it has begun. He recommended continuing to work on the expansion of overarching learning concepts and the development of lifelong programmes for sustainability transformation agents.
Prof. Ziegele also made it clear that change processes within organisations are not easy. However, the ability to change and attention to external change processes strengthens the importance and effectiveness of the university. For Frank Ziegele, HNEE is on the right track! We were pleased to hear that!
