Increased valorisation of domestic timber by a novel wood modification system - ValorWood
Short description
In this project will be developed a novel wood modification consisting of sorbitol and citric acid to improve properties such as dimensional stability and durability of fast-growing wood species native to Norway. In addition, the potential of a sorbitol-citric acid solution for bonding is being investigated. Of particular interest are the self-laminating properties of impregnated veneers for the production of various wood-based materials.
The main objective is to further develop a novel wood modification system from laboratory to pilot scale and to open up new application areas for Norwegian wood species. Furthermore, the modification processes will be optimized, the material properties evaluated and the environmental impact and economic feasibility analyzed.
