Frequently asked questions about application and admission
When are the application deadlines – for students with German or with foreign certificates?
The current application deadlines can be found here.
Applicants with foreign certificates are asked to apply via uni-assist e.V. The uni-assist applicant portal is opened at least one month before the above mentioned periods. However, we urgently recommend that you apply early even in the case of courses with open admission in order to resolve all immigration formalities and other formalities before the start of the course!
How do I apply with a German entrance qualification?
Applications to our university may only be made online. The application portal is not opened until the start of each application period. In order to apply for a place of study with us, please follow the steps below:
1. Please create an applicant account at https://bewerbung.hnee.de and enter your email address. You will receive a confirmation email from us with your user name and a password.
2. When applying for courses that are allocated via the DOSV – the central university allocation procedure, please also register at www.hochschulstart.de. They will send you an applicant ID number (Bewerber-Identifikationsnummer,BID) and an authentication number (Bewerber-Authentifizierungsnummer,BAN) that you have to enter in the online form of the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development.
3. Now you can log on and start entering all necessary information for the application and uploading your documents (certificates). You can save your information at any time and continue to fill out the application form during the application period. After you have submitted your application, you can still use your log-on details to view your application and to print it if required.
4. After successfully submitting the online application, you will receive a confirmation email. Only then have we received your application and it is further processed by us.
5. Via the "Print" button you reach a summary of your information entered in the online application. We recommend that you print it out and check it. If you find a mistake in the application after submitting it, please sent an email to studieren@hnee.de before the final date for applications so that your information can be corrected.
If you are a student with a foreign entrance qualification, you must apply via uni-assist e.V. (www.uni-assist.de) for a programme at our university. There your documents will be checked for us and then forwarded to us.
What do I do if I have problems creating the account?
Please send us an email to studieren@hnee.de. We will deal with your request as quickly as possible.
Please only use the common file formats: pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpeg.
How many files can be uploaded on the HNEE online applicant portal?
One file can be uploaded per upload line of the online application. As the number of these lines is limited, please scan the pages of the document together so that e.g., you only have one file for your entitlement to study in Germany (Hochschulzulassungsberechtigung) and you are always able to upload all pages of the documents. Only when the required documents have been fully uploaded is your application complete and can be further processed!
I don't have my leaving certificate yet. Can I still apply?
You can also apply to our university with a
preliminary leaving certificate.
When applying for a Bachelor degree course, we will need a confirmation from
your school that shows your average grade. Mid-year certificates are not
accepted.
When applying for a Master degree course, we need a certificate of performance
from your university that shows at least 150 ECTS, the provisional average
grade and the expected end of study.
Do I have to send in the original copy of my certificates?
Applicants with a German university entrance qualification or a German university degree upload their certificates to the HNEE online portal. We require officially certified copies for enrolment.
Applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification or foreign university degree can apply online via the uni-assist e.V. portal and upload their documents there.
Can I apply for several study programmes at the same time?
You can only apply for one study programme at our university. You can talk to us beforehand about which course is most suited to you. Please contact us at studieren@hnee.de to arrange an appointment for this purpose. We can provide advice over the phone or in person.
Is there a numerus clausus?
That depends upon the course. If the number of applicants exceed the free places, then after deducting the advance quota, 80% of the available places are allocated according to the average grade and 20% are allocated according to waiting period.
How do I calculate my waiting period?
For applicants for a Bachelor's degree, the waiting period is the time since attaining the university entrance qualification. Only periods in which you were enrolled at a German university are deducted from the waiting period. The waiting period is automatically calculated in the online form after entering the date of attaining the university entrance qualification.
For applicants for a Master's degree, the waiting period is calculated from the completion of the first degree to the application. Only periods in which you were enrolled at a German university are deducted from the waiting period.
Under what circumstances can I make a special application/application for hardship case?
You can make a special application in the following cases:
- Application to compensate for disadvantage in regard to increasing the waiting period or improving the average grade, e.g., due to illness in secondary level I or .
- Pre-selection on the basis of a previous entitlement to admission, e.g., due to completing a voluntary social or environmental year or caring for a child under the age of 18.
An extraordinary case of hardship is present when in the person of the applicant there are specific social, health or family reasons that make the immediate start of studies necessary. The order of priority is determined by the degree of extraordinary hardship.
What must I bear in mind if I have already studied at a university?
In principle you cannot be enrolled at more than one university at the same time. The certificate of de-registration from your previous university is to be presented at the latest on enrolment. An exclusion or loss of the examination right is to be declared! For this reason, a non-revised grades overview (also including failed examinations) is to be included with the application.
Can I start to study at HNEE if I have been permanently excluded from a study programme by another university due to failing an examination?
Students, who have lost their examination right in the same or similar courses, may be rejected for admission (according to sec. 6 (2) of the framework university and framework examinations regulations).
When will I be notified of my admission/rejection to study at HNEE?
In the case of courses with restricted admission, the notices are usually sent two to four weeks after the application deadline for the respective study programme. You can find further information on notifications for admissions restricted study programmes in coordination with Hochschulstart (DOSV) here.
For the study programmes with open admission, the notices are sent after the applications are checked for completeness.
How will I be informed of a rejection or acceptance?
The notices of admission are only sent by email to the email address recorded in your applicant account. Rejections are sent by post. You can view the notices in the Online Portal.
How and by when do I have to enrol in order to secure my place of study?
You will receive a checklist with your notice of admission. It details what you have to submit by post for enrolment. In most cases you have a deadline of 2 weeks to do so. Within this deadline, you must transfer the semester fee and submit the requested documents by post.
What should I do if I did not get a university place and am still interested in a place at HNEE?
At first, you don’t have to and can’t do anything. If a ranking-improvement procedure (Nachrückverfahren) is conducted, you will automatically participate in it. Ranking-improvement procedures may be conducted into September. If you are admitted, you will receive a notice from us again.
Can I study without the Abitur (general university entrance qualification) / Fachhochschulreife (university of applied sciences entry qualification)?
You can also study at our university without the Abitur. To do so, you need the certificate of secondary level I (Realschule [secondary school]), relevant professional experience and two years professional experience or a passed master craftsman examination.
Is there a semester ticket for local public transport?
You will receive the Eberswalde Green Card with your enrolment documents. It entitles you to use the local public transport throughout Brandenburg and Berlin.
When do I have to get study and examination performances recognised?
When entering at a higher semester, the study and examination performances are to be recognised with the application. You can find the relevant form on our website under forms and applications. The form is to be submitted with a certificate of performance and the module description. In all other cases, the form is to be received by the examination committee within 4 weeks of the start of lectures of the semester in question.
