What requirements do I have to meet in order to be eligible for a hardship claim?

Do I have to purchase a semester ticket if I am on an internship/abroad semester?
No, if you are outside the Berlin-Brandenburg area for at least 4 consecutive months, you can apply for an exemption and will not receive a ticket for the semester in question.

Do I have to purchase a semester ticket if I am staying somewhere else to write my thesis?
No, if you are staying outside of the Berlin-Brandenburg area for at least 4 consecutive months to write your thesis and can prove that, you will not have to attend any HNEE-relevant events in Eberswalde during this period, that you will not have any meetings with your advisor in the area covered by the Berlin-Brandenburg area, or that your advisor belongs to an institution outside of the area covered by the Berlin-Brandenburg area, you can apply for an exemption and will not receive a ticket for the semester in question.

Do I have to purchase a semester ticket if I take a semester off? And can I purchase one even though I am taking a semester off?
If you take a semester off, you can apply and be exempted, but you are also entitled to purchase a semester ticket.

Does the semester ticket also entitle me to take along a bicycle?
No, a bicycle ticket must be purchased additionally. The VBB currently offers a monthly bicycle ticket for the entire Berlin-Brandenburg area for about 20€.
Disability
Do I have to purchase a semester ticket if I have a disability that precludes the use of public transport?
No, but such a case must be proven by a medical certificate.

From when to when is the semester ticket valid?
Winter semester: September 1 to the last day of February
Summer semester: March 1 to August 31
In which area is the semester ticket valid?
You can use the following routes and trains of Deutsche Bahn with VBB tickets (as of December 13, 2020):

What do I do if I have lost my ticket?
A second issuance can be requested, stating the reason for the second issuance, at the Student Services Department of the HNE Eberswalde. According to the fee regulations of the HNE Eberswalde, 30 Euros must be paid for the second issuance of the student ID at the cashier's office of the HNE Eberswalde.

f I take my dog with me on the train, do I have to buy a ticket for it if I use my semester ticket?
No, you do not have to buy a ticket, you can take your dog with you free of charge. This is based on the following regulation:
the VBB tariff regulates in § 5 individual regulations, 5.1.2 Mitnahme von Hunden (page 38 attached tariff brochure): " [ ] Users of day tickets, small group day tickets, [ ], holders of time tickets as well as holders of severely disabled IDs [ ] can take a dog with them free of charge."
Since semester tickets are season tickets, this passage also applies to HNEE students. Only users of single tickets have to buy a single ticket of the reduced fare to take a dog (large) with them.
