The goal of the Biosphere Reserves Institute (BRI) is to promote sustainable development of rural areas through research and teaching. UNESCO Biosphere reserves worldwide primarily make up the model regions for development and trial projects. Together with affected interest groups, future-oriented change is to be initiated and implemented on the basis of transformative research and sustainable principles. The activity of the BRI is primarily focused on land use and its ability for value creation.
As a networking and communication centre, the BRI is responsible for forming research groups, the promoting research and teaching at the HNEE and, in particular, supporting the communication of research results to the relevant parties.
